The smallholder sector holds immense potential for growth in the region’s livestock industry. The Tuli Growth Initiative empowers future stud breeders and commercial beef producers to multiply superior, indigenous seed stock.

Tuli cattle are indigenous to Southern Africa, a trait that makes them very hardy and uniquely adapted to conditions.
The Tuli mature early, calve easily, are caring, competent mothers, are highly fertile, have low calf mortality, are easy-going in temperament and hence easy to manage, are naturally tick and disease resistant, handle hot conditions without stress, and are overall very hardy, strong, adaptable and resilient. They easily handle nutritional stress, drought and water scarcity, and even when grazing quality is poor, produce top quality beef.
Tuli are hardy cattle that handle heat well. They are also very adaptable making dry weather and intense sunlight of little concern for them.
The Tuli originated in Zimbabwe from of crossbreed with Tswana cattle from Botswana.
Tulis offer excellent hybrid vigour in cross-breeding programmes, with the advantage of a high percentage of polled calves.
Tuli cattle are renowned for their amazing ability to produce excellent quality beef even while grazing on really poor quality grass, demonstrating their incredible adaptability.
The initiative will enable development of profitable breeding herds of at least 100 pure bred Tuli cows with bulls, improve production facilities and farmer capacity through skills and mentorship over a 5-year period.
